How it all began: From the attic to a specialist for tall women’s fashion
1975
In 1975 Erika Günther founded the fashion label EGÜ in the attic of her family home in Rellingen near Hamburg. The name is made up out of the initials of her first and last name. Her collection consists of 15 pieces of clothing. The first catalogue is a black and white A6 leaflet with a print run of only a few hundred copies. Family and friends actively support Erika Günther.
1983
The attic-business has turned into a stable family-business. The attic is extended but is soon too small yet again. Erika Günther relocates the EGÜ headquarter to bigger premises in Kiel. At the same time shops in Berlin and Düsseldorf open for business. The attic in Rellingen still serves as a shop for hanseatic customers.
1984
The attic is now too small for the customers from the Hansa city. EGÜ moves into a sophisticated shop in the middle of Hamburg.
1985
People from Southern Germany are also interested in EGÜ fashion, the family-business grows steadily. 10 years after the launch of the business, a fourth shop opens in Munich.
1988
After the death of Erika Günther, her husband Horst takes over as managing director. He continues to extend the business further.
1997
EGÜ is well liked, especially in Northern Germany. In addition to Hamburg and Kiel, a new shop opens in Bremen.
2002
Erika’s and Horst’s son Ole Günther takes over from his father. The passionate yachtsman maintains the successful course of the family-business.
2015
EGÜ celebrates its 40th anniversary. The one-woman-business from 1975 turned into a successful company with 30 employees.
